It’s Hard in these Single Streets

This summer, I’ve decided to take a break—from dating, that is.
The thing is, this stage of life has made it increasingly clear: finding someone aligned is hard. And dating across languages, cultures and borders? Even harder.
On my last date, despite being perfectly clear about my standards, I found myself bending boundaries. Again. I made space for someone else’s feelings, even when mine were already articulated with care.
I’ve come to learn that my beliefs don’t always translate. At the onset of every new love interest, I now find myself having to declare things that should be basic:
No, I don’t want to split the bill. And yes, I can still be a feminist.
